Outdoor Wreath To Decorate Your Door
Have a wreath on your front door is a great way to give a feeling of holiday cheer to all that come to your home. You can have these all throughout the year, but they are most popular during the Christmas season. You don’t have to have your wreath on your door if you don’t want to, you can find other places outside to hang them if you wish. When you do this, you do have to make sure you have an outdoor wreath that will stand up to the harsh weather that often comes in the month of December.

Sometimes you can find an outdoor wreath just by shopping for them. They are made to stand up to weather, but they are often made with a material that might not have the warm feeling that you want them to have. This is because many of them are made with plastic. That plastic can certainly handle moisture, cold, and wind, but it doesn’t always look the best. When you can’t find something pleasant, you can always make your own. However, you have to think about what you are putting into it so it will last.
You can use natural pine, but remember that this type of outdoor wreath should be considered disposable. It will work well for one holiday season, but it’s not likely something you can put away to save for next year. Any living material can not be stored like that. You might be able to find fake pine, but don’t get it unless you like the look of it. Some can be mistaken for real pine, and that is what you want for your wreath. You can also get twig wreath bases, but make sure they are well put together.
You can add anything to your outdoor wreath that you want, but think out the conditions outside your home. Ribbons might be okay on your front door, if you have an overhang, but won’t do well otherwise. The things you do choose should be things that won’t be ruined by water, and won’t be cracked if the temperatures fall too low. You should also make sure you know how to attach things to wreaths meant to be outside. If you can use wire, that is a great option. If you must get glue, find one that is strong enough to handle pressure from the wind, and that won’t fail in freezing or wet conditions.
Make Your Own Candy Canes
If you haven't thought about making your Christmas candy cane before maybe this is the year that you will give it a go! Candy canes are not hard to make but they do require a little bit of tender loving care during the process. Give my candy cane recipe a try and tell me if you enjoy it:
You will need to get:
- two bowls
- beater
- cutting board
- rolling pin
- baking trays
You will need to have on hand the following ingredients:
- 185 gm butter
- 1 cup icing sugar sifted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
- 1 teaspoon almond essence
- 1 egg
- 2 1/2 cups sifted flour
- Red food colouring
To Start:
Cream the butter and icing sugar together. Then add the essences and the egg. Beat well. Fold in the flour. Divide mixture in half. In one half add a couple of drops of red food colouring. Chill both mixtures for about 15 minutes in the fridge.
Heat up the oven to about 180C. Roll about a tablespoon from each mix on a floured board into strips of about 12 centimetres. Place strips next to each other and twist into candy cane shape. Repeat until all the mix is used up and you have licked the bowl clean!
Put all the little canes on an ungreased baking tray and bake for about 10 minutes until lightly golden. Let them cool on trays and eat!
If any candy canes are left over ...store them in airtight container until you next feel like a sweet treat.

Artificial Christmas Wreath
Hanging a Christmas wreath on the door signifies that the Christmas spirit has arrived at your home. Many people look forward to displaying this welcome symbol on the entrance to their homes. While many people love the thought of a live evergreen display few have the time to shop for a new one each season. The artificial Christmas wreath is an option where you can have the best of both worlds each holidays.
Choosing your decorations can be a hard task and it is the same with an artificial Christmas wreath. There are so many choices and options with wreaths that it can be overwhelming. I've found the best way to narrow it down is that before I go shopping I think about the size of wreath I would like (I don't want it to be so big on the door that it covers the locks!). Then I think about my Christmas theme. In our house we love variety and sometimes we will have a traditional Christmas theme and others something modern. Once I know my theme I choose the colours that would look good with the house, garden and furnishings. These decisions all narrow down the choices for me and by the time I hit the shops I have a good idea of what artificial Christmas wreath to buy.
Some of my more creative friends design their own wreaths and craft them out of Christmas decorations. Making your own Christmas wreath is another way to get into the spirit of Christmas and really personalise it for you and your family with something unique.
Poinsettias are the true icon of the holiday spirit. This beautiful red flower is an attractive way of bringing nature in to your holiday celebrations. Arrangements of poinsettias in a holiday wreath usually look beautiful with a few ribbons tied in. You can also use the red flowers as accents rather than as the base of your wreath. I love the contrast of a white door with a beautiful poinsettia wreaths on it.
Another way of decorating is by using the theme of gift giving. Making your wreaths out of little present boxes can look funky and cute. Kids love to look at these arrangements as well. If you were really tricky you could fill the little boxes with candies as well to be opened later.
When I think of Christmas I really think of food - unfortunately! I love the whole Christmas baking scenario and looking at recipes for Christmas Day. My favourites to bake for Christmas are gingerbread men, gingerbread houses and cookies. Not only are these great to eat in the lead up to Christmas but they also can be strung together to make an original Christmas wreath. You can surround your gingerbread men with candies and ribbons for a truly unique artificial Christmas wreath.
Be sure to check out my Recipes for Christmas Day where I will be sharing some of my favourite recipes for the big day.
One classic holiday decorating ideas is the country Christmas theme. This theme works because it is open to a number of different colors and styles. This kind of artificial Christmas wreath is ideal for a quaint cottage style home or for a log cabin style house. If you have a weatherboard home start thinking country ... this will look great!
There is nothing wrong with going for a classic traditional theme. Of course, the traditional wreath is a wonderful choice for any home. This simple design consists of lush evergreens accented by a red bow. This is a simple old-fashioned favorite that never goes out of style. Sometimes this these is jazzed up a bit with a few bells and ribbon which also looks great.
Think about the types of decorations that you and your family admire when you look at Christmas lights house and shop window displays. Consider how they would look at your home and what changes you would like to make. You might decide that you want a one colour scheme like all silver, or the elegant all white, you might think of something fun that will make you smile when you open the door, maybe it's angels that you would like to surround your home with rather than Santa, or perhaps a Christian theme. You might like a traditional display or prefer a Victorian holiday decoration. No matter what you decide, there are so many wonderful Christmas shops about that you are bound to find something.
No matter what theme you will be choosing this year you really can’t go wrong with an artificial Christmas wreath.
Santa and I really like these ones! Good value too!

Put A Holiday Wreath On Your Door
No matter what it is that you do to your home for the holidays, it is always a great idea to think about some of the more traditional things from your childhood, even if you have a very modern décor. One thing that no home should ever be without is the holiday wreath. You don’t have to have one made of pine and ribbon if you don’t want to. You can find something that will go with almost any home, and some are so nice you might be tempted to get more than one so that you can fill your home with them.

The holiday wreath has been around for a long time. In my family, we often made our own after we had trimmed the bottom of the tree. We used the branches that needed to be removed from the bottom, and then we glued things on to it that we had around the house. That meant our wreath each year was a bit different from the one of the year before, but they had the same base. You don’t have to use pine, and in fact, you can use almost anything you can imagine as long as you can shape that material in the circular shape that indicates a wreath.
If you don’t want to make a holiday wreath, you can always go out and buy the base of the wreath, and then anything you think might work well on it, and let your children tackle the project. You can find green, and you can also find the pine style that is in many different colors. You can even spray them with glitter for extra sparkle once they are done. These are sometimes projects at school, and those can be great too, as long as you love them. I made one when I was in fourth grade, and my mom still uses it to this day.
You don’t have to use a homemade holiday wreath, of course, as there are hundreds in the stores that you can buy. They can be found for months leading up to the holidays, and these wreaths vary in price so that everyone can find what they need within their budget. If you want to find something truly unique, you can look around for them online to see what comes up for you. You should search by whatever theme you have in mind.
